About the role
TransferX is looking for a Backend Engineer to help build the technology that powers our platform and supports transfer students throughout their journey.
You'll work closely with our product and design teams to build reliable backend systems, APIs, databases, and integrations. This is a hands-on role where you'll have the opportunity to contribute to products from the ground up and help shape the technical foundation of TransferX.
What you'll do
- Build, maintain, and improve backend services and APIs
- Design and manage databases and data models
- Develop integrations with third-party services and APIs
- Work closely with product and design teams to turn ideas into working products
- Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code
- Identify and troubleshoot bugs, performance issues, and technical challenges
- Help establish backend architecture and development best practices
- Contribute to new features from ideation through launch
- Help improve the reliability, security, and performance of the TransferX platform
What we're looking for
- Experience with backend development or strong foundational knowledge of backend engineering
- Familiarity with languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or similar
- Understanding of REST APIs and backend architecture
- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, collaborative environment
Bonus points
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Experience building AI-powered applications
- Familiarity with authentication, payments, or third-party integrations
- Experience working on an early-stage product or startup
- Open-source contributions or personal projects
